Christmas Day drivers have been warned of ‘absolute bedlam’ at an often-hectic junction. All traffic lights are out at the crossroads in the heart of Hindley town centre, in Wigan borough, this afternoon (December 25).
The issue is affecting the junction where the A58 at Liverpool Road and Market Street, and the A577 at Atherton Road and Wigan Road meet. Google traffic data shows congestion is building at the crossroads, which is usually a notorious traffic hotspot.
Councillor James Palmer, who represents Hindley Green on Wigan council, has issued a warning to motorists on Facebook this afternoon. He also shared footage from the road, showing cars approaching the junction and taking turns to manoeuvre.
Coun Palmer wrote: “The four way lights at Market Street, Atherton Road at The Bird I’th Hand are not working from all directions. I have made GMP aware who have just confirmed that [an] engineer is on route.
“It’s absolute bedlam so please take extra care when approaching the junction! Merry Christmas.”
