A popular restaurant in Bristol is set to permanently close as it has gone into administration.

Steak of the Art, known for serving steak, seafood and various meat dishes along with a unique combination of dining and art, is set to permanently close its doors in the UK, shutting its Bristol and Cardiff locations as it enters administration.

With a concept that doubles as a steakhouse and an art gallery, Steak of the Art operated under the company Groupco Ltd..

Despite drawing in food enthusiasts, recent times have seen the business struggling, reports the Mirror.

Documents from Companies House indicate that Rob Coad and Sam Talby of Undebt have been appointed as joint administrators for Groupco, which trades as Steak of the Art, with the appointment made on April 9, 2025.

Creditors are owed £410,347 as of March 31 of the preceding year according to the most recent filing.

This development guarantees the permanent closure of the Cardiff branch, which had already shut its doors temporarily, and it is expected that the Bristol location will follow suit in indefinitely ceasing operations.

Neither the administrators nor the restaurant have provided comments when approached by Business Live, our sister publication.

Founded over a decade ago by ex-management consultant Stephen Bowen, Steak of the Art carved out a niche offering customers an “original, fun and entertaining” dining experience.

This includes private dining reminiscent of the Moulin Rouge capable of accommodating up to 20 guests at no rental cost.

In addition to its culinary offerings, the restaurant also features a separate gallery space highlighting local and national artists, and boasts an events roster with live music, film nights, and fashion show fundraisers.

The popular Bristol restaurant boasts a solid 4.2 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor, with the latest review coming in on April 5. Patrons have taken to social media to share their dismay over the anticipated shutdown.

A customer said: “Steak of the Art! ! Gutted!” Whilst another disheartened diner said: “Such a shame, that’s the place in Bristol we went.”

And a third said: “Is there anything left open in the UK? Every day something else is closing.”

On TripAdvisor, one person said: “We threw a surprise birthday lunch at Steak of the Art. They were absolutely brilliant the whole way through. Really helpful with helping with the booking and sorting the private area for us. They also let us serve our own cake for dessert. The steak was absolutely delicious! And the roasts looked amazing, and I’m told were also delicious! I would highly recommend this place!”.

Throughout the year, the business maintained an average of 38 employees monthly, including directors.

It remains unclear if any positions will be jeopardised due to the administration or if the company might be listed for sale.

Both Undebt and Steak of the Art Bristol have been contacted for comment.
