Schumacher is excited to be back in front of a big crowd at the Toughsheet Stadium and wants to send the supporters home happy after a frustrating result at Wycombe.

“I’m really excited about it because there is always that added atmosphere on Boxing Day. It is a game that everybody looks for as soon as the fixtures come out in June,” he said.

“Since I’ve been a coach now, seven or eight years, I have always been drawn away from home.

“There is always an issue of going to a hotel on Christmas night or travelling miles away from your family on Christmas Day.

“It is never easy but having a home fixture, the fans will be excited about it, I’m excited about it and the players are looking forward to it.

“If we can capitalise on that with a good result, then it makes you smile on Boxing Day which we all want.”

The boss is keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s clash with Rotherham, which turned into a rather frustrating affair.

The Whites had 36 shots on goal but could not find a way past Cameron Dawson, who was in inspired form between the sticks.

To add salt to the wounds, the Millers scored their only shot on target to take all three points back over the Pennines.

Rotherham have been on a tough run more recently, losing three games on the spin and failing to win any of their last six in the league.

“It was one of those games where we could have still been playing now, a year later, and wouldn’t have scored,” Schumacher reflected.

“It’s a team who have come here with recent experience of having success. I know they’re in a little bit of a sticky patch of form at the moment, they have lost their last three.

“But before that, they were unbeaten in five or six. That just shows you how unpredictable the league is.

“We expect a tough game against them. They have got some experienced players who understand how to get results. We are looking forward to it, though.”

Wanderers have been imperious at the Toughsheet Stadium so far this season and are aiming to extend their unbeaten record on home turf.

“Coming to our place, they will understand that they have to be really good defensively and at it because of how strong we have been at home,” the head coach added.

“They are a team that, if you’re not ready and if not prepared for, can cause you a problem. So we won’t underestimate them based on their current form because in this league, as it keeps showing, form doesn’t really matter and nobody’s consistent.”
