A blaze at a property in Edinburgh on Christmas Day was ‘wilful’ according to Police Scotland. The fire broke out at around 6.45pm on December 25, with emergency services called to the scene on Stevenson Drive.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched three appliances and one height appliance after locals ‘smelled smoke in the air’. Police taped off a section of the street as they investigated.

It’s understood that no injuries were sustained in the blaze. Fire crews left the scene at around 7.31pm after the flames were extinguished.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.45pm on Thursday, 25 December, 2025, officers received a report of a fire at a property on Stevenson Drive, Edinburgh.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed: “We were called to Stevenson Drive at 6.41pm on December 25 after reports of a dwelling fire.

“We dispatched three appliances and one height appliances. Crews left at 7.31pm after the fire was extinguished.”

Iain Henderson posted to X: “Major fire, police incident on Stevenson Drive in Edinburgh. Smell of smoke in the air..

“Looks like a house fire.”

Another report on social media claimed it ‘didn’t look good’. They witnessed four fire engines and four police cars on the street as officers taped off the scene.
