WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The Wichita Falls Independent School District Combined London Band will depart for London on December 28 to participate in the 40th Anniversary of the London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1.
This opportunity for student musicians from Legacy High School and Memorial High School to perform in one of the world’s most iconic international celebrations will showcase the talents of Wichita Falls and Texas on a global stage.
The London New Year’s Day Parade attracts more than 500,000 spectators who watch live along the streets. At the same time, an estimated half a billion viewers worldwide will tune in via television and streaming platforms.
The band will depart from the Legacy High School Band Hall, with the first group of buses scheduled to depart at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. on December 28.
Community support has played a crucial role in making this event possible, allowing all participating students to engage in this life-changing experience.
“This opportunity would not be possible without the overwhelming support of our community,” said organizers. “The generosity of Wichita Falls has ensured that every student, regardless of individual circumstances, could take part in this extraordinary experience.”
Residents of Wichita Falls are encouraged to attend the send-off event to cheer on the students as they embark on their journey.
The parade will be broadcast locally at 7:00 a.m. on January 1 and can also be accessed via PBS, the PBS App, YouTube, and the official parade website.
Their performance in the parade is not only a celebration of artistic talent but also of the strong support and unity within the Wichita Falls community.
