The heartbroken family of a schoolboy who was allegedly stabbed to death on a Glasgow street have spoken of their pain of spending Christmas without him.
Sister Denila, 18, paid tribute to Amen Teklay, who was pronounced dead in the St George’s Cross area of the city after being found injured on March 5. Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, are to stand trial charged with the alleged murder of a 15 year-old.
Denila told the Scottish Sun about the impact that Amen’s death has had on dad Teklay Yifter, 38, and the rest of the family. She said: “At this age, I wouldn’t expect my brother not to be with me.
“We were very close. I just keep thinking he’s still there. Going outside and to school has been hard.
“For my dad, it’s very hard. My dad sleeps with painkillers. He’s still in denial. He thinks that maybe Amen’s in another country and is going to come back. He was his closest friend.”
Denila told how Amen loved music and basketball. She says that he also dreamed of becoming a doctor or engineer.
The newspaper also reports that a charity foundation has been set up in the boy’s name to educate impoverished children in Ethiopia.
The teens accused of killing Amen are to go on trial at the High Court in Glasgow next year.
