Following Edinburgh’s 21-3 defeat to the Glasgow Warriors in the 1872 Cup and URC, here’s how we rated Sean Everitt’s charges.

Edinburgh player ratings

15 Wes Goosen: A clunky game from all, which meant it was difficult for the exciting full-back to give any kind of spark. He was safe under the high ball for much of the game, but that unravelled in the latter stages. He managed the backfield well, but that’s about it. 4

14 Darcy Graham: The livewire winger certainly put himself about, but really struggled today under the high ball and was completely outplayed by the brilliant Jamie Dobie. He had a handful of good impacts but couldn’t influence the fixture enough. 5

13 Matt Currie: Kept the Glasgow attack in check for the most part and had a few good carries. Did as well as he could have, considering what service he got. 6

12 James Lang: Edinburgh got good purchase from his carries while Lang made all of his attempted tackles. However, he couldn’t get the attack firing along with Scott. 6

11 Lewis Wells: Elevated to the starting lineup following the late withdrawal of Duhan van der Merwe, and his night only lasted 26 minutes before he was forced off due to a concussion. During that time, he conceded two turnovers and saw very little ball. A tough night for the 23-year-old. 4

10 Cammy Scott: A night to forget for the fly-half who failed to get the attack firing at all, while his line kicks were woeful. He also wasted a handful of opportunities with attacking kicks that were simply not on. His defence was one of the few positives he could take away from this performance. 4

9 Ben Vellacott: Kicked well at times, but Glasgow won the aerial duel. Vellacott is partly at fault for the attacking struggles as his service was rather sluggish. 4

The forwards

8 Magnus Bradbury (c): Uncharacteristically coughed up the ball on three occasions today, perhaps highlighting the pressure his side was under. But that also comes with the sheer workload that he got through, making 40 metres from his seven carries and topping the tackle count with McConnell, making 20 in total. 7

7 Dylan Richardson: Another player who added to Edinburgh’s injury woes as the flanker departed the pitch on 27 minutes. He got stuck right into the thick of the action, making six tackles and pestered the breakdown, but on two occasions, he conceded a penalty. 5

6 Liam McConnell: Another strong performance from the rising star who was excellent at the breakdown and just as impactful on defence, leading the tackle count with Morris and Bradbury. A solid lineout option again today and a strong carrier – a real all-court threat. 7

Glasgow Warriors player ratings: Jamie Dobie ‘wreaks havoc’ before Scottish ‘Bomb Squad’ explodes to seal the 1872 Cup

5 Grant Gilchrist: Rarely has a poor outing for Edinburgh, and today was not the exception. Did his job with little fuss, but didn’t have any magical moments either. 6

4 Glen Young: Ditto for Glichrist’s locking partner. The manner in which the lineout operated and the pressure they put Glasgow under in that facet of the game deserve a hat tip for both second rowers. 6

3 Paul Hill: A solid 68 minutes from the experienced tighthead prop with honours pretty much even in the scrums for much of the game. Hill chipped in with 11 tackles too. 5

2 Harri Morris: As mentioned above, he was busy defensively, and his lineouts were accurate for the most part. Ticked the boxes without being sensational. 6

1 Pierre Schoeman: Also played 68 minutes after Boan Venter withdrew before kick-off. He was busy around the park as per usual and also held his own in the set pieces. 6

Replacements: Edinburgh were in the fight for 75 minutes, but ultimately, Glasgow’s depth and bench impact won them the match as they ran in two late tries. Everitt needed his bench to step up, and they didn’t despite. 5
