The Reds came from 3-1 down to win 5-3 in a Boxing Day cracker at The Racecourse.

After going behind early on, Wrexham were quickly back on level terms thanks to an own goal but the Blades struck twice before Kieffer Moore scored as Parkinson’s men trailed 3-2 at the break.

The second half belong to the Reds who produced a brilliant attacking display and netted through Ryan Longman, Moore with his 12th goal of the season and Josh Windass from the penalty spot to secure a memorable win.

Wrexham went into the game on the back of 2-1 defeat at Swansea City which extended the winless run to five games and although he refused to get too high following the fantastic result against the Blades, Parkinson acknowledged how well his side played.

“It was an all-round good mixture to our game and obviously we’re pleased,” he said.

“We didn’t get too down after Swansea, which is hard not to when you lose a game like that.

“We’re not going to get too high with tonight, but we’re going to enjoy the moment as well because that was us, kind of in periods of the game, right at our best.

“Bravery and character comes in many forms, and you need to show it when you’re losing 3-1 at home, coming on the back of a defeat last Friday.

“I think the lads showed that really well, there were some really good performances from us.”

There was no training session on Christmas Day and Parkinson says that decision paid off.

“We gave the lads Christmas Day off and don’t make too big a thing of that in the media because it’s always a contentious one,” he said.

“But we did three days work before that and there’s an element of trust with the group, and we wanted them to enjoy the time with the families.

“We’ve got a lot of players with young kids so we took that decision and the lads have responded really well.”

Parkinson is hoping for more of the same when Wrexham host Preston North End on Monday night in the final game of the year.

“When you win on Boxing Day, it’s key because players and the staff have got to make sacrifices to produce a performance like that,” he added.

“The lads have been very professional and obviously we’ll continue that and try and reproduce the performance against Preston.”
