The midfielder, who led the Blues to back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna, left the club last summer to join Kuwait SC on a free transfer. However, his time in the Middle East lasted just a few weeks, and he soon found himself back in England.
Unable to join a new club until January, it was reported that Bristol City were closing in on a move for the 34-year-old. McKenna went on to confirm that, while Morsy had a number of options on the table, the nine-cap Egypt international was ‘in talks’ over a move to Ashton Gate.

Robins boss Struber has since added that the club are ‘super close’ to signing Morsy, and that he may have a Bristol City shirt on ‘in the next few days’.
“Yes, we are super close with Sam,” he said after his side’s Boxing Day win at West Brom.
“I would say that Sam gives us a little bit more experience. He’s a player with a little bit of a different face and he can be, of course, on the pitch for us super important.
“But also, next to Knighty [Jason Knight], next to Rob Dickie, next to Zak Vyner, he can be also in the dressing room for us an important player.
“We had the chance to get him, and I would say in the next few days, maybe he has a Bristol City shirt on.”
BBC Sport have reported that Morsy will sign an initial six-month contract, with the Robins holding an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
Bristol City head to Portman Road on Tuesday, January 20th (7:45pm).
