Police have been given extra powers to deal with anti-social behaviour in Port Talbot following a rise in reports of problems

An emergency 48-hour dispersal order is in place for the area around Green Park Street which allows officers to instruct anybody who is causing – or is likely to cause – harassment, alarm or distress to others to leave the area, and gives them the power to seize any items suspected of being used to cause anti-social behaviour.

The order – known as a section-35 order – came into force last night and runs until 6.30pm on Tuesday, December 30.

Inspector Jared Easton said: “The dispersal order is in place as a preventative measure following a recent increase in reports of anti-social behaviour in the area. We will have an increased presence and officers won’t hesitate to enforce the extra powers afforded to them in order to keep the community safe.”
