The segregated cycle lane will link the cycleway at the Leeds Road/Shipley Airedale Road junction with the cycleway that was completed earlier this year as part of the major works in Bradford city centre.

The new section will use the wide pavement and an unused bus layby on Leeds Road between Chapel Street and East Parade to create a segregated cycleway linking the two sections.

The works will be carried out during the day with a one-off night shift for resurfacing work on East Parade. Access for businesses will be maintained.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday (January 5) will be completed by the end March.

The work is being funded by Community Infrastructure Levy and Active Travel England Fund via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Both pots of funding have been ringfenced and can only be spent on this type of project.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “The council would not be able to spend any of this funding on day-to-day Council services, like bin collections or social care.”

Councillor Alex Ross Saw, Executive for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “This work will see the connection of this final section of cycleway. The scheme has been designed to take cyclists off the main carriageway, making it safer and easier for cyclists. This also has benefits for drivers in helping the flow of traffic.”
