Manchester United are unlikely to add any further players to their squad tonight when Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Old Trafford. Captain Bruno Fernandes is still out while Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire remain sidelined. Kobbie Mainoo should return soon but he will miss tonight’s game.
The only doubt surrounds the fitness of Mason Mount. The former Chelsea man felt something in the first half against Newcastle and is being assessed ahead of the game.
With United’s squad looking stretched, MEN Sport’s United writers have named their preferred line-up for tonight’s clash with the Premier League’s bottom club.
Tyrone Marshall
Given the lack of options available it would make sense to go with the same team again. The back four worked well and the return of Lisandro Martinez was huge, so I think you go with that shape and those same players.
Manuel Ugarte had a good game on Boxing Day so deserves to keep his place and with Mainoo and Fernandes still out, Casemiro can go again. The concern is obviously around Mount. If fit, he plays. If he isn’t, I’d be tempted to go with Jack Fletcher. He settled into the game against Newcastle and this should be much easier.
Benjamin Sesko needs a goal but played well on Boxing Day. Patrick Dorgu has to play on the right-wing again and Matheus Cunha looks in good form.

Even if Mount is in a position to start against Wolves, it would be tempting not to risk him. The former Chelsea man’s history with injuries proves Ruben Amorim needs to tread carefully with the attacking midfielder and should not rush him back.
As for who replaces him, that’s a different conundrum entirely. While tempting to give Fletcher his first senior start, Joshua Zirkzee could be best to play the 4-2-3-1 system.
Other than that, the same team that started against Newcastle makes sense. Dorgu was good in a more advanced role and Cunha is proving to be filling in for Bryan Mbeumo well.
