A fleet of speed cameras installed along a busy dual carriageway are in the process of being ‘calibrated.’

The devices- along with signs- were set up along the A45 Small Heath Highway from the junction with Bolton Road to Heybarnes Circus this month, in a bid to stop speeding and compliance with the new 30mph limit.

Today (Dec 30), the council have revealed that the cameras are currently undergoing calibration which is expected to take a week.

The cameras extend the existing operation from Berkley Rd to Bordesley Middleway.

Drivers will have to keep within the limit or face fines and penalty points if caught on camera.

A Birmingham City Council spokeswoman said: “The speed cameras and associated poles were installed on Small Heath Highway in December 2025.

“These cameras are currently undergoing calibration, which is a necessary step to ensure accuracy and compliance.

“The calibration process is expected to be completed within a week.

“Following this, the cameras will be activated, and enforcement will begin as appropriate.”

Small Heath Highway is one of half a dozen routes selected around the city for extra enforcement based on the number of collisions and where compliance with speed limits is generally poor.

The new camera locations are:

  1. A45 Coventry Road (extension of existing operation from Berkeley Road to Bordesley Middleway)
  2. A47 Nechells/Fort Parkway (A4040 Ring-road to A452 Chester Road)
  3. B4121 West Boulevard (Selcroft Avenue to California Way)
  4. A34 Walsall Road (Wellinton Road to Newton Road/City Boundary)
  5. B4114 Washwood Heath Road (Ward End Park Road to Bromford Lane)
  6. A34 Stratford Road (Coniston Close to Robin Hood Lane)
