As a member of the royal family, Prince William doesn’t receive a traditional salary — but he definitely makes money.
This year’s Duchy of Cornwall Integrated Annual Report broke down the Duke of Cornwall’s earnings for the 2024-2025 financial year. William, 43, officially took on the title as Duke of Cornwall after his father, King Charles III, ascended to the throne in 2022.
The Duchy of Cornwall is an estate created by King Edward III in 1337, providing funds for the heir to the British throne. Proceeds from the Duchy of Cornwall cover the charitable and private expenses for William, Princess Kate Middleton and their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. (The royal family’s overall income is provided by the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant, which is paid out annually.)
“I’ve spent my first few months at the Duchy listening and learning; from colleagues, stakeholders and tenants across the estate,” secretary and keeper of records Will Bex said in his letter released alongside the report. “Working hand in hand with The Duke, this is a time of reflection and transformation. We are bringing positive change to the Duchy, and this comes in many forms, the first has been refocusing our organizational strategy.”

Kensington Palace confirmed to Hello! Magazine this past July that William does, in fact, pay federal taxes on the money he receives from the Duchy of Cornwall. It is not required that William discloses details about how much he pays in taxes. (Charles publicly disclosed what he paid in taxes annually while he was in his son’s position from 1993 to 2022.)
“The Prince of Wales pays the highest rate of income tax,” the Prince of Wales’ secretary, Ian Patrick, shared in a statement at the time.

What Is the Sovereign Grant?
The Sovereign Grant is money paid out by the Crown Estate, a business entity that manages property for the British royal family. Money from the Sovereign Grant doesn’t quite go directly to the family members, rather it’s spent on upkeep for their vast land portfolio and staff costs.
There is a separate trust, the Duchy of Lancaster, saved for the British monarch specifically — in this case, Charles.
