It’s bad news for New Year’s revellers who were hoping to take in the renowned London New Year’s Eve fireworks show from outside the City of London. That’s because the popular Primrose Hill park, which boasts panoramic views of the city, is closed to visitors all throughout today and through the evening. This means that those hoping to view the fireworks from the raised park will have to seek out another inclined park to perch in or watch the display on the TV.

Primrose Hill closed

Gates were shut to visitors yesterday at 8pm, and the park will remain closed until 6am on New Year’s Day. Some areas of the park have been cordoned off with temporary fencing. Other parts, such as access points, have had dark green hoarding erected to deter anyone trying to get in.

This comes after an estimated 30,000 visitors flocked to Primrose Hill last year on New Year’s Eve to watch the fireworks light up the sky.

Commander Nick John of the Metropolitan Police said: “The Royal Parks are urging people not to try to gather at Primrose Hill this year and we would echo those calls.

“Please make alternative plans. Anyone trying to access the park will find that it is not possible.”

Londoners have also been advised not to try to attend the fireworks without a ticket, and to plan their travel ahead of time. It is likely that central London Tube stations and public transport routes will be extremely busy. Some stations will close temporarily, or will be exit-only for brief moments, to deal with overcrowding and high numbers of travellers.
