  • 1 January 2026

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) – A judge temporarily blocked London ordinances that could cut city jobs in the new year.

London Mayor Randall Weddle first raised the alarm during a council meeting on December 16. He said the council passing an amended budget would force him to fire dozens of city employees including the entire fire department.

Since then, 86 employees filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city.

In the orderissued on Wednesday, Laurel Circuit Judge Samuel Spalding said could negatively impact public safety, before a hearing could happen.

The judge scheduled a hearing for next Monday morning, that’s when they’ll decide if this order will stay in place.
