A teenager and a man in his early 20s have both been arrested on suspicion of murder in a ‘significant development’

A man stabbed to death in South London on New Year’s Eve has been named and pictured. John Onetufo, 23, from Deptford, was stabbed in the chest at about 12.35pm on Grove Street, Lewisham, on Wednesday, December 31.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were arrested earlier today (Friday, January 2) on suspicion of murder and are in police custody.
Investigation lead Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, who previously announced patrols are being increased in the area, said: “My team has worked relentlessly over recent days to pursue every line of enquiry, and I can confirm that two arrests have now been made in connection with this tragic incident.

“This is a significant development, but our investigation remains ongoing as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.
“I want to extend my deepest sympathies to John’s family and friends. We remain committed to finding answers and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.”
