An Edinburgh contestant on ITV’s The Chase was ridiculed by Chaser Anne Hegerty after she revealed how she would spend any prize money she won. 65-year-old Pam appeared on the popular quiz on New Year’s Day as the latest series got underway.

The retired lecturer previously worked as a respiratory nurse for nearly 20 years before training nurses across the UK and Hong Kong. Along with fellow contestants Bean, Jack and Peter, she faced the Chaser known as “The Governess”.

When asked by host Bradley Walsh what she would do if she won some money on the show, she explained she wanted to go to Glastonbury- but stay somewhere with “a proper mattress, good loos and a bar in the corner where you can get a cocktail”.

She scooped an impressive £5,000 in her cash builder round before facing Anne, who was quick to respond with scorn.

The formidable quizzer said to the amusement of Bradley: “You want to go to Glastonbury with a mattress and a clean loo? Who do you think you are, Adele?”

She went on to compliment Pam for her choice of top – a very colourful blouse patterned with various dog breeds – and her efforts, before adding: “So I particularly want to get rid of you.”

After coming dangerously close to being caught, Pam made it home and dry to the team with her £5,000, bringing the total prize fund to £18,000.

With final contestant Peter knocked out, Pam, Bean and Jack went on to the Final Chase. Despite a fairly strong performance of 19 points, the trio were caught with six seconds remaining and went home with nothing.

During the show, viewers were quick to share their views on social media. Many also picked up on The Governess’ observation about the contestants’ names.

She commented: “Have you noticed Bradley we’ve got a theme?”, before explaining: “Peter, Pam, which is like Peter Pan and Jack and the Bean(stalk).”

One fan wrote on X: “A panto-themed show? Oh no, it isn’t!”

Another added: “The producers on The Chase knew exactly what they were doing putting this team together.”
