Police have issued a caution to motorists about parking at a beauty spot in Eryri, with locals labelling the situation as “crazy”. Parking mayhem at locations such as Pen-y-Pass and Llyn Ogwen is typically a summer and bank holiday occurrence.

However, the snowy landscapes of Eryri have attracted walkers and those in search of the perfect winter snapshot. This has resulted in cars being parked along the roadside between Llanberis and Pen-y-pass. The situation has reduced the route to a single track road, further complicated by icy and snowy conditions.

This has led North Wales Police to issue a warning, reports North Wales Live. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter here

A spokesperson for the force said: “North Wales Police are asking drivers to park responsibly and safely following reports of congestion on the road between Llanberis and Pen y pass, reducing the carriageway to a single track road.

“Driving conditions are also difficult in places due to ice on the road.”

Local residents have dubbed the situation as “crazy”.

Chris Fawcett warned: “Guys, take care – the Pass is chocka with people parking on the road, from the boulders up to Pen-y-Pass and Pen-y-Gwryd. They’re even parking next to the Clearway/Towing signs.

“It’s becoming almost impassable for those of us who live here. Crazy.”

Another individual commented: “It’s down to one lane on blind corners today, just drove over.”
