Wren’s Nest Primary School in Dudley has also closed to pupils and staff on Monday, January 5.

A message on the website read: “Despite clearing the site yesterday ready for opening, there has been further snow overnight and having assessed the paths and roads around the estate, we don’t think it’s safe for families to travel.

“We will keep you updated regarding tomorrow.”

Cotwell End Primary School and Alder Coppice Primary School in Sedgley will also shut for the day.

An alert on the latter’s website said: “Following a risk assessment, we have made the decision that we will be unable to open on Monday, 5 January. Therefore, the school will be closed to all pupils.

“As you know, access to our site always causes an issue when the weather is like this, and we have had members of staff out at the site today and both the site and the surrounding access are already quite dangerous.

“Given the uncertain forecast for more snow overnight and it potentially freezing, we do not feel it is safe to open.”We apologise for any inconvenience but hope that this early notification will help families plan ahead.”We will send you a message on Monday regarding the situation for Tuesday.”

Caslon Primary Comunity School in Halesowen also announced a closure.

A notice on the website said: “We are going to be closed today due to the weather. I will keep you posted throughout the day regards to tomorrow.”

Halesowen College had also informed students it would not open until lunchtime to “allow travel conditions to improve”.

A message posted on its Facebook page on Sunday afternoon (January 4) read: “Due to expected weather conditions overnight, the college will open at lunchtime tomorrow to allow travel conditions to improve.

“We continue to track the weather carefully to ensure everyone’s safety. If the situation changes we will post further messages.

“However, at present lessons will go ahead tomorrow as planned.

“There will be no morning coach service or lessons. The coach service will resume at usual afternoon times to enable students to arrive at college in time for afternoon lessons from 1.15pm.
