A Cork student has died while on a ski trip in France.

The young man, age 20, from the Blarney area, was a student in University College Cork, it is understood.

He died on Sunday night while on a holiday with friends in a popular French ski resort.

Efforts are now underway to bring his body back home.

Local Fine Gael councillor Damian Boylan said that the community was in shock after hearing about the tragedy.

“It is every parent’s worst nightmare for something to happen to their child. My deepest sympathies are with his family,” Mr Boylan said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
