There were worrying scenes on Emmerdale after the Corriedale crossover episode, with a sad twist for Cain Dingle.

As the soap collided with Coronation Street, it was something that happened after the crash that left fans in shock. Towards the very end and in a cliffhanger, a doctor was heard telling a mystery patient some bad news.

After tests were run, it emerged they had discovered a “sizeable mass”, while exact details were kept under wraps. At the end though, it panned to Cain, and this is who the doctor was talking to.

The doctor addressed him by his name, and shared the news. Cain looked stunned, with his wife Moira Dingle emotional as she sat by his side. But what does this mean for Cain? The doctor said: “To be clear, even if it is cancer, it doesn’t necessarily mean a death sentence. I am truly sorry… Mr Dingle.”

Viewers begged the soap not to kill off the legendary character, played by Jeff Hordley for nearly 26 years. One fan posted: “They are NOT going to kill off Cain… they’re not…they can’t…can they?!!”

Another said: “Don’t you bloody dare kill Cain off!” as a third added: “Don’t you dare kill Cain,” A fourth shocked viewer said: “Right Emmerdale writers you need to do us a solid and NOTTT kill Cain off please and ta bye.”

Fans may recall that a while ago on the ITV soap, Cain was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. What exactly he faces this time remains unknown, while Moira actress Natalie J Robb had teased some personal issues coming up for the pair in the fallout to the drama with villain Celia Daniels.

It comes as cast members teased far-reaching consequences for the soaps going forward after Corriedale. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Shona Platt actress Julia Goulding teased how the big event will impact Shona and her husband David Platt.

Julia told us: “Imagine David and Shona and their life is a ball of wool. Imagine what would happen if a cat got hold of it, it would unravel.” Sally Carman-Duttine added: “There’s a possibility lives will be forever changed. There was a lot of frantic energy. We were all on a night shoot.”

As for Theo Silverton actor James Cartwright, he promised both soaps would never be the same. He told us: “There’s moments that will have real far-reaching consequences.

“It will change soap land forever. Soap land will never be the same again because of it. It’s like a meteor coming to Earth. You can take cover but it’s landing!”
