Danny Rohl has led the Light Blues to second spot and three points off the Scottish Premiership summit
Kris Boyd chants the name of Rangers boss Danny Rohl
Grinning Kris Boyd refused to reveal if he believed that Rangers could go on to win the title after seeing off Aberdeen.
The Ibrox fan favourite dodged the question by Celtic hero Chris Sutton on Sky Sports – before breaking into song as he serenaded the panel with Danny Rohl ‘s name. The Light Blues moved above Celtic and into second spot as they saw off the managerless Dons at Ibrox thanks to goals from Emmanuel Fernandez and Nicolas Raskin.
And going into the second leg of the Premiership double header with the Aberdeen, Rangers trail league leaders Hearts by just three points – having played a game more than their rivals. But Boyd was calm when asked about the growing hype around Rohl’s side.
He said: “Aberdeen I thought were really poor, and they still created some clear cut chances in that first half. Rangers are winning games and they deserve a lot of credit from where they have come from under Danny Rohl, but I am not sitting here getting carried away.”
Sutton chimed in: “You have been sitting here singing his name all evening. Do you think that this Rangers team, not they are building confidence, that they are favourites to win it now? What is your top three?”
Boyd was quick to swerve the question about the Premiership hopefuls and instead replied about his Sky colleagues: “My top three? Faddy (James McFadden), Neil McCann…it’s better when you are up there (on commentary).”

He went on: “Listen, people forget – Hearts are still top of the league, three points clear. Celtic, for 45 minutes, absolutely battered Rangers on Saturday, and there has been a change there. You would expect Celtic to get a lift.
“Rangers have dragged themselves back into this title race, but there is still a long, long way to go. His team are winning games and scoring goals. I don’t really see them cutting teams open, but listen set-plays are key.
“They have always been key in a game of football. I know it’s fashionable right now because if the stats of Arsenal and England and what they are doing – but they have always been key.
“Rangers have scored from two tonight, and it has given them the three points. They then march on until Sunday, and it’s going to be a different game.
“We have seen Aberdeen come down here before in midweek and be absolutely hopeless, and turn up and Aberdeen and get a result. We will see what team turns up on Sunday.”
Sutton was then asked about his “top three”, and added: “My top three? I think Hearts are favourites at this moment in time.
“It depends who gets the best of the January transfer window. If Celtic get the best under magic Martin (O’Neill) then I think Celtic are favourites. And Rangers fourth.”
Boyd smirked: “Let’s go, we move on to Sunday.: He then broke into signing Rohl’s name to the tune of Boney M’s 1976 hit ‘Daddy Cool’.
