A number of schools in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands have announced they will be closed tomorrow ahead of an overnight snow bomb.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for “heavy snow” from 8pm tonight until tomorrow morning, January 9, with Storm Goretti set to batter the region.
Issuing the latest weather warning, the Met Office said: “Heavy snow, associated with Storm Goretti, is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions Thursday night into Friday.”
Several schools in the West Midlands have already announced they will be closed on Friday. Others say they will make a decision in the morning.

Aston University Engineering Academy & Sixth Form will be shut due to the “severe weather warnings”.
Bilston Church of England Primary School in Wolverhampton has also confirmed it will not be opening to pupils tomorrow.
The headteacher told parents that the school is shutting for the “interests of the safety of everyone”.
A letter sent home to parents read: “Children will be issued with work for them to complete at home on Friday.
“This week has brought a mixture of weathers, and I would like to thank the site staff for all their efforts this week in keeping the school site sage for children, parents/carers and staff during this time.”
Wilkinson Primary School, also in Bilston, along with a number of other schools in Wolverhampton have announced they will not open on Friday due to the weather.
Queen Alexandra College in Harborne said it has also made the decision to close tomorrow after “careful consideration”. It will remain open to residential students and ‘residential IP clients’.
Invictus Education Trust says it will take a “pragmatic approach” and has delayed school opening times.
The trust’s schools include Crestwood School, Pedmore High School, Ellowes Hall Sports College, Leasowes High School, Kinver High School, Rufford Primary School, and Wombourne High School.
Schools will open at 10.30am instead to allow travel outside of rush hour.
The trust said it will monitor the situation “closely” and any decision regarding closures would be made no later than 7am and communicated by headteachers
