Furuhashi, who is currently with Birmingham, has been the subject of rumours suggesting the Japan striker could head back to the Scottish champions this month.

Ahead of Birmingham’s FA Cup tie against Cambridge United, Davies spoke about Furuhashi’s situation.

The 40-year-old manager said the club has had no discussions about a potential move for the striker.

He said: “Kyogo is our player who has been playing more matches recently than he has in the last few months. [GiveMeSport]

“The plan is that Kyogo continues in that vein – gets his goals and gets his game moving.

“So I’ll support him to do that.

“We’ve had no discussions at the moment about anything other than Kyogo giving his best and doing his best for Birmingham City.”

Davies indicated that he believes the striker will stay with Birmingham.

He stated: “Personally, I think he’s going to stay here and potentially battle through whatever comes in front of him.”

Davies also praised Furuhashi’s commitment to the club: “Kyogo cannot be doing any more in terms of his own efforts with the club.

“So, we’ve been supporting him, and we’ll be going along with that.”

However, he also acknowledged the possibility of changes in the future, saying: “Again, though, like a lot of things we’ll obviously see as things progress through January, where everyone is and make sure everyone is on the same page.

“But certainly at this moment in time, Kyogo is an important player in the squad and will continue to be so.”

Since departing Celtic, Furuhashi has struggled to find the net with only one goal during his time at Rennes and Birmingham.

That goal came in an EFL Cup match against Sheffield United.

During his time at Celtic, Furuhashi scored 85 goals in 165 appearances before leaving in January 2025.

His prolific record at the Scottish club fuelled the rumours about a potential return.
