Context behind the comeback
The contest will be Madrimovโs first since suffering two defeats in 2025, both against elite opposition. He was stopped by Vergil Ortiz Jr. in February before losing a decision to Terence Crawford in August. Those results halted his momentum after a steady rise through the division.
Following the Ortiz loss, promoter Eddie Hearn said Madrimov entered the fight while dealing with a chest infection, which he stated compromised preparation. Hearn later argued that Madrimov deserved the decision against Crawford, a view echoed by some observers at the time. Despite those discussions, both outcomes stand, leaving Madrimov with a record of 10 wins, two defeats, and one draw.
A step back into rhythm
The upcoming fight offers Madrimov a controlled return after an extended absence. Salazar arrives with less profile, but the assignment provides rounds, activity, and an opportunity to stabilise following a difficult year. At this stage, consistency and time in the ring are central considerations.
There is also a personal dimension to the return. After competing exclusively against established names, Madrimov now enters a phase where rebuilding confidence and routine can be as significant as rankings or titles. How he looks physically and mentally will be closely noted, even in a fight without immediate implications beyond the night itself.
For now, the focus is straightforward. Madrimov is back, the date is set, and the next chapter begins without promises beyond showing up and working his way forward.
