A house has been cordoned off after police discovered chemicals during a drugs raid in Oldham. Officers stormed a property on Fresca Road in the Sholver area of the town this morning (Friday, January 9).

During their searches, police said they discovered ‘chemicals suspected to be used in drugs manufacture.’ They will be ‘safely tested and removed from the address’, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement.

“A scene will remain in place at this time and there is no wider threat to the public” they added.

The force said they were assisting colleagues at Cheshire Police with the operation. A 38 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences. He has been taken into custody for questioning.

The house on the quiet residential cul-de-sac remained taped off this afternoon. Two forensic tents have been put up in the back garden.

The front door could be seen having been knocked off its hinges whilst glass had also been smashed on a rear patio door.

A fire engine was spotted on the street earlier with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirming they also attended the incident.

One local resident said: “I came outside about half 7 morning and just saw all the coppers. They looked like undercover or CID or something, in plain clothes. Then I clocked that the front door was on the floor.

“More police then started turning up and they put all the tape up.”

A neighbour said: “I woke up about 8am and just saw a load of police cars and vans. It was like the SWAT team the way they were kitted out. “
