A major junction is blocked after a crash this afternoon. At around 2pm, Merseyside Police were called to Tunnel Road, at the junction of Wavertree Road, in Edge Hill.

The crash involved a black Range Rover and a white lorry. The junction connects Edge Hill to Toxteth and the city centre to the south and Kensington and Everton to the north. Google’s live traffic data is reporting slow traffic at the junction and bus services have also been diverted.

Several marked and unmarked police cars, as well as an ambulance, were called to the scene. Traffic monitoring service Inrix said at 2.39pm: “Wavertree Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to a police incident from Harbord Street to Spofforth Road.”

Arriva North West said on X: “Due to a police incident at Wavertree Road/Durning Road, Service 27 will divert via Upper Parliament Street, Crown Street, Oxford Street, Overton Street and Wavertree Road, omitting Tunnel Road. Delays are likely, please allow extra time for your journey.”
