Kyogo Furuhashi has been making headlines at Celtic during the past week, amid his struggles with Birmingham City.
Therefore, it was perfect timing that Kyogo ended his goal drought for Birmingham on Saturday evening in the FA Cup.
Hours after Celtic thumped Dundee United on Martin O’Neill’s second return to the dugout this season, Kyogo was scoring for the Blues against Cambridge United.
The Celtic hero hadn’t scored since August, and there were suggestions that he could make a return to the Champions of Scotland during the January transfer window, but that is probably put to bed now.

It was a nervy 3-2 win for Birmingham against a team in England’s fourth-tier, with Kyogo netting his team’s second goal of the night.
After the match, Chris Davies expressed how much the struggling Japan star scoring meant to everyone, and how it ‘meant a lot to him.’
“He was really good tonight,” Davies told Birmingham Live. “The second goal is all about Kyogo. He made it for himself by chasing a lost cause, nicked it, and then a big touch out of his feet and takes his goal well.
“You can see the reaction from all the players, himself, the fans, the staff, everyone. Everyone is chuffed for him, and it meant a lot to him.
“For Kyogo, it’s goals and confidence. He will take a lot from that goal. He’s got a lot of backing. The fans have been great with him.
“He works hard, he’s quick, he always gets a chance. We have just got to hope now that he takes those more consistently. He has our full support to do it.”

Other striker options outside of Kyogo returning to Celtic
It’s typical Celtic that they have been looking to replace Kyogo with Kyogo. It’s probably a prime example of just how useless those are in the Parkhead boardroom.
And whilst the Hoops love a comeback, as they have proven with Brendan Rodgers, Jota, Kieran Tierney, and recently O’Neill.
Sometimes, it’s just better to move on and look at other candidates to fill Celtic’s goalscoring void. Here are a few names that could do the trick.
- Callum Wilson
- Kieron Bowie
- Che Adams
- Sam Surridge
