Three teens and a man in his 50s have been killed following a crash in Bolton

Residents have slammed the road where four people died in a head-on smash at 1am as ‘dangerous’.
They spoke out as Greater Manchester Police confirmed three young men, aged between 18 and 19, and a man in his 50s, died following the devastating crash on the A676 Wigan Road in the Deane Area of Bolton in the early hours of today (Sunday, January 11, 2026).
The drivers of a red Seat Leon and a grey Citroen C4 Picasso and two passengers on board the Leon suffered fatal injuries in the crash which took place on a 30mph stretch of Wigan Road. Pictures from the scene showed the the Picasso with its front end completely destroyed before it was towed away.
The Manchester Evening News has seen CCTV footage which shows the two cars crashing head-on before the Leon spins around and crashes into a parked car. The Leon appeared to be in the wrong lane at the point of the impact.
Today residents who live at the spot where the fatal crash happened described their shock today, but they also said the road, close to a children’s play park and Haslam Park primary school, was dangerous.
One resident, who declined to be named, said they were woken by a loud ‘bang’ just before 1am. He went on “This road is dangerous, really bad. with people speeding here especially at night-time. It’s absolutely dangerous. We’ve been asking the council to put up speed cameras or speed bumps, to do something.
“Two years ago someone crashed into my car which was parked outside. It was written off. There have been other incidents as well.”
Another resident said his car had also been crashed into while parked outside his home. He said: “Something needs to be done. Something is happening here every month. It’s definitely a dangerous road.”
In a statement earlier Coun Ayyub Patel said: “As a councillor for Rumworth, I am deeply saddened to hear about the serious incident on Wigan Road. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the persons who have tragically lost their lives and my thoughts are with everyone affected.

“I want to express my gratitude to the emergency services for their swift and professional response in such difficult circumstances. Our community will stand together in support and we will await further updates from the authorities.”
GMP’s serious collision investigation unit is now appealing for witnesses. A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 12.45am, officers attended Wigan Road, Bolton where a red Seat Leon was travelling down the road and collided with a Citroen C4 Picasso
“The driver of the Seat, and two passengers have tragically died following the collision. The driver of the Citroen was also sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Five injured passengers have been taken to hospital, where they are currently being treated. A scene is still in place at this time as officers continue their investigation.
“The SCIU are urging for anyone with information to please come forward. This includes anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident.”
