Birmingham City are being tipped to make a January move for highly-rated young Newcastle United midfielder Alfie Harrison. Harrison, aged 20, joined Newcastle from Manchester City nearly two years ago for a seven-figure fee reported to be worth up to £3.5million.

He had emerged as one of the leading teenagers in the country, making and scoring goals regularly for Man City at under-18s level. He has spent most of his time with Newcastle in the under-21s and hasn’t been able to force his way into Eddie Howe’s first team plans.

There have been reports over the last few weeks about Championship interest in the player and now the Daily Mail names Blues as his suitor, adding that an exit is in the offing along with Turkey-bound Jamaal Lascelles and Ben Parkinson, who is on his way to Falkirk.

Our colleagues at ChronicleLive add: “Newcastle are getting interest from Birmingham for Harrison. The Magpies paid a seven-figure fee for the ex-Man City youngster a couple of years ago when Steve Harper thanked the board for the Yorkshire lad’s arrival and an undisclosed fee was mentioned in the official press release.

“But Harrison has not had much of an opportunity under Howe and has watched on as youngsters like Sam Alabi have been included in Champions League night squads. Harrison is under contract until the end of the season and could net a small fee for Newcastle if he goes this month.

“If not, Harrison could leave on a free transfer with Chronicle Live told that he has a clutch of clubs in England and abroad interested.”
