Emergency services raced to the scene of an incident in Bristol on Sunday, January 11. Police officers were called to North Street, in the city’s district of Bedminster, shortly after 12.30pm after report of a “serious” collision.
A cordon was set in place, closing the street at junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road and Fairfield Road. Witnesses said Avon Fire and Rescue Service as well as paramedics also attended the area alongside Avon and Somerset Police, BristolLive reports.
A spokesperson for the police force said they headed to the area after receiving a report of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.
The spokesperson said: “Officers are at the scene of a serious collision in North Street, Bedminster, Bristol, this afternoon (Sunday 11 January).
“We were called just after 12.30pm following report of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.
“The car left the scene before police arrival and enquiries were carried out to locate this vehicle.”
One person, the spokesperson added, has been arrested in connection with the incident. They are in police custody.
Drivers in Bristol are urged to avoid the area, with the spokesperson saying: “North Street has been closed at the junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road and Fairfield Road while enquiries are ongoing. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.”
Police have asked people who were in the area at the time of the collision, or have doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage, to call the force on 101 and quote reference 5226009040.
