West Midlands Ambulance Service said its teams were “exceptionally busy”, with the weather causing added pressure.
“We’re exceptionally busy and, with freezing temperatures resulting in ice and snow in some parts of the region, it means we’re taking longer than usual to reach patients who need our help,” spokesperson said.
“You can help us get to those who need us the most by only calling 999 for an ambulance in a genuine emergency.”
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust also said emergency departments at hospitals in Worcester and Redditch were “very busy”, prompting it to issue its own plea to patients.
“Please help us by choosing the right service and only using A&E for the most serious illness or injuries,” a spokesperson said.
