Lewis Koumas has only made five league starts for Birmingham City during his latest loan away from Liverpool

Lewis Koumas is happy to let his Birmingham City loan run for now after finally finding favour under Chris Davies.
Koumas followed up his goal against Coventry City with another positive performance in Saturday night’s FA Cup success over Cambridge United.
The 20-year-old winger is having a run in his favoured left-wing position with Demarai Gray out injured and his confidence is rising.
“Getting a goal, especially against a team like Coventry, boosts your confidence instantly,” Koumas told BirminghamLive. “Me being a confidence player, I need that to go and perform freely without any sort of pressure on my back.”
Koumas has only started five of his 21 Championship appearances for Blues and he could have no arguments about playing second fiddle to Gray during the Brummie’s purple patch.
It was presumed Koumas would be recalled by Liverpool this month but no one is rushing into a decision, despite this not being the loan everyone hoped for after his Championship breakthrough at Stoke City last season.
“Last year I played 49 games and started a big majority of them,” said Koumas. “It’s been a different start this year but whenever I get put in I’m ready to give my best.
“I really like the gaffer. He sees my attributes well. We spoke about it before I came in and I’ve been working hard in training for months and months now, just so I’m ready when I go on the pitch.”
There are four more Championship matches to play in January and Gray isn’t due to return until February, meaning Koumas could be set for an extended run in his preferred position.
Koumas and Liverpool will likely want assurances from Davies that his game-time won’t evaporate once Gray returns but for now, the winger seems content.
He added: “We’ve obviously had conversations (with Liverpool) but I’m keeping my head down, working hard and we’ll see what happens.”
