Drivers will soon have to pay to park in areas that are currently free in six Calderdale towns.

A number of changes to parking rules will be implemented early this year across Brighouse, Elland, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden.

Calderdale Council said the move would help free up spaces in busy areas and make parking more consistent. Plans include new charges on streets and in car parks, longer charging hours in busy towns, and shorter hours in quieter ones.

A council spokesperson said: “Charging for parking helps us manage spaces and any surplus will fund car park repairs and highways maintenance.”
