ACTORS and people to help backstage are being sought to put on a new play about the incredible life of St Francis of Assisi in south Birmingham.
The 20:25 to Assisi, written by Malcolm Morse, centres on St Francis of Assisi who lived between 1181 and 1226.

It was created to celebrate the centenary last year of St Francis Church, Bournville, and was due to be staged in November.

But, due to an unforeseen event, plans had to change and instead of the whole play, a selection of scenes was performed, including much of the specially composed music.

Now, the company hopes to present the full version of this play, which tells the flesh and blood story of a man of astonishing charisma, energy and drive.

Director Malcolm McGivan said: “It’s a powerful piece, about an inspirational man.

“Located in Assisi, Rome and Egypt, it shows how Francis left his comfortable, privileged life to embrace poverty and devotion.

“He packed so much into his relatively short life.

“The rescheduling to 2026 means we must make some cast changes, so we are looking for both actors and help off stage.”
