MEDS Workshop 2025: Rijeka – CITY OF TEXTURES
We are excited to introduce MEDS Workshop 2025: Rijeka – CITY OF TEXTURES, an international gathering of over 200 young architects and designers from 50+ countries. This inspiring event will take place from August 3 to August 18, 2025, in Rijeka, Croatia.
MEDS (Meeting of Design Students) is a global network dedicated to transforming spaces through creative, hands-on workshops. This year, Rijeka—known for its rich industrial heritage and cultural diversity—will be the hosting city. In its 14th edition, MEDS Workshop invites international participants to explore Rijeka’s fascinating history, vibrant culture, and evolving urban landscape through the lens of its unique textures. What Is MEDS Workshop?
Meeting of Design Students (MEDS) is an international non-profit organization led by students and young professionals in architecture, design, and other creative fields. Through events and gatherings, MEDS celebrates diverse cultures, explores urban structures, and pushes creative boundaries. Our interests encompass design, architecture, urbanism, photography, and other creative disciplines. Participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas, broaden their knowledge, and form lasting friendships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. These events and workshops foster an international environment where educational and cultural themes are seamlessly intertwined.
The core program of MEDS Workshop 2025 consists of interdisciplinary project workshops held at selected locations, allowing participants to acquire traditional and contemporary techniques with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and environmental awareness. The scheduled program is complemented by guest lectures from local experts in art, design, architecture, and related fields, fostering collaboration and meaningful connections between international participants and the local community.
Since its beginnings in 2010, MEDS Workshop has been hosted in a different country each year, highlighting its commitment to diversity and global collaboration. Previous editions have taken place, e.g., in Belgium, Lebanon, Greece, Poland, Spain, and Armenia.
When and Where?
Over two weeks, young architects, designers, and creatives come together to collaborate on bold, site-specific projects that leave a lasting impact on both the host location and the MEDS community. The 2025 workshop will be held from August 3 to August 18 in Rijeka, Croatia.
Why Rijeka?
Rijeka is a dynamic blend of a rich history and a vibrant present. Shaped by its industrial heritage, shimmering waters, and creative spirit, it carries the echoes of countless human stories. Four central narratives define the city’s collective memory, each contributing to its layered identity. Their interplay, overlap, conflict, fusion, prevalence and vibration create unexpected scenarios. The textures of Rijeka are not merely something that can be seen or touched; they are experienced and felt, making Rijeka a city that leaves a lasting impression. MEDS has the opportunity to become part of these layers, exploring these textures and contributing to Rijeka’s ongoing story.
