
The incidents occurred in the Culmore Road and Great James Street areas of the city
A man has been arrested in Co Londonderry on suspicion of indecent exposure close to a school following a police investigation.
The 35-year-old male was arrested today and remains in police custody.
The PSNI believe two incidents which occurred in the city may be linked at this time.
The first incident occurred in the Culmore Road area of the city in the vicinity of a school between 3.30-40pm on Tuesday.
The suspect was described as being a black male, around 6ft tall and wearing a blue coat, blue chino-type trousers, and dark-coloured shoes.
He was also reported to have had a tight short haircut, with an athletic build, and aged between 30 and 40 years old.
The second incident was reported to have occurred today (Wednesday) at 1.40am. A female described being followed by a man while walking on Great James Street around 20 minutes earlier.
The suspect was reported as having a dark skin tone and wearing a black top and grey bottoms. The woman was able to escape safely but has been left “distressed” by the incident.
The PSNI confirmed patrols were subsequently conducted in the Great James Street area but there were no further sightings of the suspect at the time.
Inspector Robb said: “We take reports of this nature incredibly seriously and officers will be on patrol to provide reassurance. We urge anyone with information to please report it to us so we can investigate fully.”
A PSNI spokesperson added: “In relation to the Culmore Road incident, the area would have been busy given the time of day and police appeal to witnesses or anyone out walking, or travelling through the area and who may have relevant dash cam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 1171 of 13/01/26.
“In relation to the Great James Street incident, police would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw a man matching the description in the vicinity around this time this morning. They’d also like to hear from anyone who may have captured any kind of recorded footage. Officers can be contacted by calling 101 quoting reference 71 of 14/01/26.
