Scunthorpe United is thrilled to announce the permanent signing of former loanee forward Connor Smith from Scottish League One side Hamilton Academical for an undisclosed fee.

Starting his career with Heart of Midlothian, Smith was a highly rated regular in the Scottish national team at youth level, featuring for his country at U16’s level all the way up to featuring for the U21’s. As well as this, the versatile attacker would gain first-team experience on loan with Cowdenbeath, Arbroath, Cove Rangers and Queens Park across the Scottish pyramid.

Making his first-team debut for Hearts at just 16, Smith would finally break into the side consistently in the 2022-2023 season, as well as being named as a substitute in the Europa Conference League just days before joining the Iron for the first time on a short-term loan. During his initial spell with Scunthorpe, Smith would quickly become one of the club’s top performers with eight goal contributions in just 16 games for the club, attracting attention from then Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone, who snapped up Smith on a permanent basis in the January of 2024.

Featuring just a handful of times for the Saints, Smith would be loaned to Scottish Championship side Hamilton for the second time in his career, becoming an almost instant hero for the Accies as he was a shining light in an eventually relegated side and signing for the club permanently in January 2025. So far this season, the 23-year-old joins the Iron with an impressive return of 10 goal contributions in 16 matches, looking to pick up where he left off with the club two years ago.

This transfer is subject to international clearance and to league ratification.

Scunthorpe United would like to extend its gratitude to club sponsors Yaddlethorpe Motor Company for their assistance in completing this transfer.

Welcome back to Scunthorpe, Connor!
