Casting has been announced for the work-in-progress performances of Babyface – The Fierce Wrestling Musical.
Written by Seiriol Davies (How to Win Against History), the cast includes an array of musical theatre performers and professional wrestlers.
Described as a “rags-to-spandex story,” it follows queer best friends Gruff and Rezi from Rhyl as they climb the ranks of wrestling. The comedy will feature professional wrestling in a real ring.
The cast includes James Ifan (Kinky Boots), Rex Hayes (To Kill A Mockingbird), Genesis Lynea (Six) and Iestyn Arwel, alongside Cadi Mullane, Nic Myers and Elis Myers-Sleight. They’re joined by professional wrestlers Nightshade, KM Lane, Cassius The Neon Explosion and Darcy Stone.
Babyface will be directed by Debbie Hannan and Matthew Holmquist, with musical supervision and arrangements by Geraint Owen, musical direction by Sioned Evans, wrestling choreography by Ed Gamester, and casting by Harry Blumenau.
First seen in Birmingham as part of BEAM2025, the piece has been in development for three years. Presented by Jafar Iqbal and PW Productions, the first public performance will be a part of Chester’s Storyhouse Queer Festival on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. An extra performance has been added, taking place at Pleasance, London on Friday, 13 February 2026.
