We’re over halfway through January and still waiting for pay day. So for many of us it may be a quiet weekend.

But for those planning to get out and about, the weather outlook for Saturday shows variable cloud and scattered showers persisting in the east and south of Northern Ireland, some of which will be heavy. It will also be windy.

Sunday will be generally cloudy with the risk of intermittent rain in places before clear spells develop in the evening

Here’s what to expect for the coming days, according to the Met Office.

Saturday:

It will be another day of variable cloud and bright spells. Some showers at times, quite frequent and sometimes heavy in the east. Maximum temperature 8C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Variable cloud and some bright spells through this period with a few showery outbreaks of rain at times, perhaps quite heavy and frequent on Monday

UK long range weather forecast: Tuesday 20 January – Thursday 29 January

Throughout this period, the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems attempting to arrive from the west while high pressure and colder conditions attempt to exert some influence from the east. Initially, milder Atlantic air is expected to dominate. This should maintain often cloudy, changeable conditions with showers or longer spells of rain for most.

The wettest weather in western parts of the country, drier in the east. Temperatures overall likely to be around average with some night frosts in clearer areas. Later in the period, there is an increased chance that conditions will turn colder. This aspect of the forecast is still somewhat uncertain but the potential transition to colder weather also increases the chance of snow across parts of the country.
