13:20 Windsor – Wade Out

We start a crazy, busy day with a Grade 2 novices’ chase over an extended 3m. This is an absolute cracker. Salver is going to love the conditions, but WADE OUT looks overpriced to me, following wins at Cheltenham and Worcester – he did his best work at the end both times, and stamina is his forte.

Soft ground has not been a problem so far, so he’s just got to jump well in the early stages to keep in the mix before the turbo kicks in. Sean Bowen rides for Olly Murphy.

13:50 Windsor – Highlands Legacy

A handicap chase over 2m, as HIGHLANDS LEGACY re-oppose Mighty Bandit, who pipped them to the win at Newbury in December. With a 2lb turnaround, I think there is every chance of a reversal in form – my selection did go up 3lb for the defeat, but he’s improving and travels well which is a good asset to have at Windsor. Jonjo Jr rides for the other two O’Neills.

14:05 Fakenham – Princess Keri

The first here is a mares’ handicap hurdle over 2m4f, and it’s tough to sort this out, even with just seven runners. However, PRINCESS KERI has gone up in trip recently, and she’s improved, scoring well at Lingfield and Ludlow. She started from a very low mark and is only on a mark of 96 now, so with Ned Fox now taking off 5lb, she has a big chance of improving her good recent form.

14:15 Thurles – Jade De Grugy

Over in Ireland, ITV are showing this Grade 2 mares’ novice chase over 2m5f. This won’t take long, as JADE DE GRUGY is the best of these by miles, and should hack up for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Quite simply, she has found a great opportunity, and although she’s yet to win a chase, her second to Lossiemouth in the 2025 Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham shows she’s got a load more talent than this lot.

14:25 Windsor – Royal Rambler (each way)

Now a handicap hurdle over 3m. ROYAL RAMBLER is a young, lightly raced and strong stayer who ran really well at Chepstow last time when chasing home King of the Lake in a fair heat. He’s getting better for Emma Lavelle, and should have at least an eachway chance in a big field for Gavin Sheehan.

14:40 Fakenham – Gazette Bourgeoise

The final of a series featuring mares’ in a handicap chase over 2m5f. Not a great bunch here, but GAZETTE BOURGEOISE won over course and distance last time off a mark of 103, and has gone up 7lb – quite a lot as she was left clear at the last. That was a weak contest but this isn’t much better, though she was in command and deserved the success.

15:00 Windsor – Protektorat

The Fleur de Lys Chase, which is a decent conditions chase over 2m6f, and everything suggests that last year’s hero PROTEKTORAT will take all the beating for trainer Dan and jockey Harry Skelton. Obviously at the age of 11 the old boy is not getting any better, but he’s had a wind operation since his last run and he was super impressive last year, blitzing Djelo who would be right in the mix here having run in the King George last time. This could be his last chance to win a big pot.

15:20 Thurles – Appreciate It

A Grade 2 chase over an extended 2m4f – a little bit like a race for veterans. APPRECIATE IT is the most talented horse and should win rated 157, for all he has just turned 12. To his advantage, he’s relatively lightly raced and comes into this with a fine second at this track to Affordale Fury in November.

That form has been given a massive boost since and this former Cheltenham bumper runner-up and Supreme hero has a huge chance. It’s Paul Townend again for Willie Mullins.

15:35 Windsor – Jacks Parrot (each way)

A handicap chase over an extended 3m4f, and lots of horses are in with chances here. JACKS PARROT stays well and goes in mud, so there is every chance of a decent eachway run for the Greenall/Guerriero combination and jockey Craig Nichol.

A three-time winner from 19 starts, my hope is down a pound after a fair third at Haydock last time, where he kept on strongly over a short trip. He’s just a slow old plodder and that will be useful here! So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me, Paddy?
