Stephen McBarron has been selected as the Labour Party candidate for Pudsey in May’s Leeds City Council elections.
Mr McBarron says he will offer a full‑time voice for local people and a commitment to protecting the services that matter most to residents.
The University of Leeds graduate has spent many years working alongside people across Leeds West and Pudsey, including helping to save Fairfield Community Centre in Bramley and reviving Bramley’s annual community festival.
“Pudsey is a proud, traditional town,” he said. “It’s good old‑fashioned Yorkshire – a place with strong values, a rich heritage and a real sense of community. People look out for one another here, and that spirit deserves to be protected.”
He says he is committed to safeguarding important local facilities such as libraries, community centres and Post Offices, recognising how much they contribute to family life, social connection, and independence.
“I will always go the extra mile for residents,” Mr McBarron added. “Older people and those with disabilities must never be overlooked, and families should feel supported, not stretched.
“I will make sure everyone is listened to and treated with the respect they deserve. I am also committed to standing up for our armed forces veterans and ensuring their service is honoured.”
WLD reported in November that the Conservatives had reselected Simon Seary as their candidate. WLD will be approaching candidates from all seven wards in our patch for 300-word profiles ahead of the local elections.
All 33 council wards in Leeds will be contested at next May’s Leeds City Council elections.
