West Midlands Police responded to reports of a child being hit by a car and disorder taking place on Caldwell RoadA general view of Caldwell Road in Birmingham

A nine-year-old child was rushed to hospital after a crash on a busy residential street in Birmingham.

Disorder also broke out on Caldwell Road, close to Bordesley Green, just after 7pm on Thursday May 1.

West Midlands Police rushed to the scene, attending to reports of a child being “hit by a car” and disorder taking place.

A 20-year-old man was also taken to hospital to be checked over after allegedly being assaulted in the disorder.

Caldwell Road sits between Bordesley Green and Alum Rock and is a key residential route, with a number of crescents coming off it.

Local residents had reported a significant police presence on the route on Thursday evening.

Pictures shared on social media showed a large number of police officers on the road, which was sealed off. The route has since reopened.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We were called to Caldwell Road at around 7.05pm Thursday 1 May to reports that a child had been hit by a car and a disorder was taking place.

“A nine-year-old child was taken to hospital to be checked over.

“A 20-year-old man was also taken to hospital to be checked over after being assaulted during the disorder.
