Liverpool headed to the hostile and atmospheric Stade Velodrome unbeaten in 12 games across all competitions, but with plenty of frustrations still lingering after a run of four draws in five including being held at home by struggling Burnley at the weekend. They needed a point from their last two league phase fixtures to ensure a spot in the knockout play-offs but will now have strong hopes of sealing a top-eight finish and direct progress into the last 16 with one game to play – at home to Qarabag next week.
