A Merseyside shop could soon lose its licence after police said “serious violent disorder” had taken place there. Wirral Council will make a decision on the business’ future later this week. An application has been made to review the licence of the Liscard Stop and Shop, a Premier based at 3-4 Coronation Buildings on Wallasey Road in Liscard.

The shop had its licence suspended on December 31. The call for a review has been made by Merseyside Police and councillors will meet on January 23. They will make a decision regarding the future of the licence and review the interim step to suspend the licence on December 31.

The Liscard Stop and Shop currently has a licence to sell alcohol 24 hours a day seven days a week and be open for this time. Following the licence suspension, councillors may decide to do a number of things.

They could modify conditions on the licence, remove a licensable activity such as the ability to sell alcohol from the licence, remove the designated premises supervisor, suspend the licence for up to three months, or revoke it.

A report published ahead of the meeting said: “Merseyside Police have applied to review the premises licence held by Mr Jeyakumar Denisventhan by way of a summary review. The application made by Merseyside Police has been submitted due to the premises being associated with serious violent disorder.”

At the meeting held on December 31, councillors considered “whether interim steps should be taken following receipt of the application received from Merseyside Police”.

They “deemed it necessary and appropriate” to suspend the licence in order to “prevent serious violent disorder occurring at the premises”.
