A major UK construction company has gone into administration following a £5.9 million pretax loss for the year ending March 31, 2024. According to reports, FK Group and two of its subsidiaries have filed notices of their intention to appoint administrators.

FK Group, with its headquarters in Stockport Rod, Altrincham, is understood to have been impacted by sector-wide challenges, including hold-ups concerning the building safety regime and an unresolved legal matter involving the collapsed tier one contractor ISG. The firm’s turnover declined by 23% to £100.6 million, reports the Express.

Over the same period, FK Construction – the group’s main contracting division – reported a pretax loss of £7.5 million. This significant decline followed a 50% drop in revenue, whilst the company had to factor in £5.5 million in exceptional costs relating to ongoing legal proceedings with ISG.

FK Facades, the arm specialising in curtain walling and rainscreen systems, posted a pretax profit of £1.2 million on revenues of £57.2 million during the same timeframe. Meanwhile, Companies House records indicate that the 2024/25 accounts for all three companies are presently overdue.

A recent High Court judgment ruled against FK Facades in a dispute over remedial work on the roof of a commercial building in Ashton Moss, Greater Manchester. The judge ruled that Paragon was entitled to reclaim £80,500, in addition to the adjudicator’s fees.

FK Group, founded in 1979, had been a significant force in the industry, securing fourth place in the most recent CN Specialists Index for building envelope contractors.

FK Group was a well-established UK building envelope contractor, known for providing roofing, cladding, façade systems and comprehensive envelope solutions on major construction projects.

Since its inception in 1979, it grew into one of the sector’s top performers, most recently achieving fourth position in the CN Specialists Index for building envelope firms.

The group was made up of several key divisions, including FK Construction, its main contracting arm; FK Facades, which specialised in curtain walling and rainscreen systems; and FK Group Ltd, the overarching holding company.
