Woodside micropub on Low Lane in Horsforth has been a popular venue for several years now. And now in 2026 its owners are looking forward to another busy year as part of the community.
Owners Reece James and Sam Smith took over the pub at the end of last summer and aren’t looking at changing too much of a winning formula.
Reece said: “We aren’t looking to change too much. It’s a community pub at the end of the day. We took over six months ago and it’s going quite well. I’ve wanted a bar since I was early twenties but I’ve run bars in Leeds, Harrogate, Bradford, Manchester for a decade.

“I ran Leeds Postal service on Wellington Street in Leeds. That’s how I met my business partner. I was there for about a year, Sam was a regular.”
After a night out in Leeds Reece and Sam decided to buy a bar and came to look in Horsforth.
“I never knew about Horsforth. So we came to Horsforth to have a look around and I fell madly in love with it. I moved in [to the area] straight away.
“I love all the regulars. We want to just keep growing and we want this to be our first bar out of three. So we have this for five years, we want to get another one afterwards. But we want them all to be the same, community pubs.”
The pub stocks a wide range of craft beers.
“We like to concentrate more on English beer but we still have Belgian and German [beers] in the fridge.”

The pub is open Tuesdays between 5pm and 10pm, Wednesday to Friday between 3pm and 11pm and Saturday and Sunday 1pm to 11pm.
There’s a pub quiz on Thursday nights with a £30 bar tab to be won as well as a happy hour at various points in the week with 20% off drinks. The venue also sells Horsforth Local Lottery tickets and accepts the Horsforth Pound.
