A man carrying a blue plastic bag is believed to have set fire to the front door of a house before fleeing. Police are appealing for information after the front door of a house was set alight on Warrenhouse Road in Kirkby shortly before midnight on Wednesday, January 21.

No one was injured in the incident and the fire was quickly put out. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the man suspected of starting the fire was wearing a green hoodie, dark trousers and was carrying a small blue plastic bag.

Police have since launched a joint investigation with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said: “Thankfully the fire was quickly extinguished, and the occupants were not injured.

“The investigation is in the early stages and extensive enquiries are being carried out.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at around midnight onwards and noticed a male matching the description and acting suspicious to please contact us.

“I am also appealing for any drivers who were in the area at the time to please check your dashcam footage and get in touch if the male was captured on your footage.

“This evidence could hold information that could be vital to our enquiries.”
