DIXIE COWBOY has taken well to fences for Sam England and can land a second handicap chase now stepping back up in trip. He won over two miles on his chasing debut here in November but has form over further over hurdles. Rehill Relic, a course winner over hurdles, is another who has made a positive start to his chase career, winning at Huntingdon last time, and is second choice ahead of last Wednesday’s Catterick third Huit Reflets.
A couple of these mares met at Wetherby on Boxing Day when Tim Easterby’s ROSIE BALOO shaped well when finishing second. She can confirm superiority over Laffer Curve who was back in fourth, and this bumper winner can make it fourth time lucky over hurdles. La Zoubida, who carries a double penalty for winning her first two starts over hurdles here and at Kelso, and Rosa Diaz are also quite closely matched on form with the aforementioned pair.
KAZAR FOREZ had some fair form to his name in France and returned from a ten-month absence with a much better effort for Micky Hammond when gaining a first success at Newcastle last month. He is fancied to make light of a 4 lb rise in this weakly-contested event at the chief expense of Saviour, who wasn’t knocked about starting out for Jennie Candlish here in October and can go forward now. The Coffey Boy appeals as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
INDIAN RIVER looks to have got in lightly on his handicap bow for Adrian Keatley and is hard to oppose in his bid to make it three out of three over hurdles after winning juvenile contests at Catterick and Wetherby. Chase A Fortune arrives at the top of his game though now that he’s had cheekpieces fitted, and should ensure the selection doesn’t have things all his own way, while Fromheretoeternity and Inca Prince need factoring in too.
Sam England’s top weight TOM CREEN might be good for yet another Sedgefield win having won five times here already over shorter trips and was a good second here on Boxing Day in a race he won last season. Dan Skelton’s Delgany Deadline is open to progress with his Market Rasen chase debut behind him. Now fitted with cheekpieces, he’s second choice ahead of Scottish King who has the same headgear on for the first time.
LIVANO BELLO remains winless but is proving a reliable sort for Micky Hammond and can gain a deserved breakthrough success on the back of a good third over course and distance, with Brian Hughes now back on board. Kaviar Wood advanced his form when runner-up (in front of the selection) last time out and still with few miles on the clock rates the main threat ahead of National Question, a winner at Newcastle earlier in the season, and Nellie Bluesky.
